Break settings can be added to an exam event and allow you to define:
- Amount of breaks allowed: the total number of breaks an individual may optionally take during the exam
- Break duration: the allowed duration of each break
- In-break behavior: defines whether to continue or pause the exam timer during a break
- Post-break navigation behavior: defines whether backward navigation is fully disabled after a break, whether there's no forward/backward navigation change, or whether navigation to pre-break items is disabled (navigation to pre-break items is the recommended setting)
The steps below list how to add and adjust these settings.
- Log into your Prolydian account at https://app.prolydian.com and go to Events > Events
- Click on the event of interest
- Scroll down on the Setup tab and check the "Allow examinee to take breaks" checkbox
- Checking this will display the break setting options
- Enter the number of breaks allows in the "Amount of breaks allowed" field
- Set the duration (in hours:minutes) in the "Break duration" field. E.g., 00:10 for 10 minutes, 00:15 for 15 minutes, etc.
- Select the timer behavior from the "In-break navigation behavior" dropdown
- Select the post-break navigation behavior from the "Post-break navigation behavior" dropdown
- Save your changes by clicking the "Save" button at the bottom of the page
