Test Taker FAQs
*Please see the end of this article for specific requirements for exams proctored by our partners*
This is my first remote proctored exam. What's it like?
Taking a remote proctored exam gives you the freedom and convenience to take your exam when you want to and where you want to. Remotely proctored exams provided by our partners require you to complete a few steps before you begin your exam. You can find those steps here:
When you're ready to start your exam you'll be connected with a proctor, who will verify your identity and check your surroundings. Make sure the room is free of people, pets, and clutter. You'll complete a 360-degree sweep of the room to make sure it's free of anything that might get in the way of your testing experience and then the test will begin. You must have a working built-in or external webcam to complete the full room sweep. You'll also need to make sure you have a working built-in or external microphone to communicate with your proctor. You have to stay on screen for the duration of the exam otherwise the proctor may have to pause or stop the session.
What are some common remote proctoring restrictions I should be prepared for?
Each proctoring service and exam is different, so you will need to refer to the specific proctoring service and be sure to read through any communications from your exam administrators. However, here are some common restrictions that you may want to prepare for:
- Secure exam environment - An ideal exam environment should be free of other people, pets, and clutter. Please ensure that there are no windows or open areas across from you while you are seated at your testing area. Test takers are generally required to have their computer on a desk or table and should ideally be seated on a chair or stool.
- No food or drink - Unless specifically allowed by your exam administrators or via advanced accommodations, most proctors will not permit any food or drink to be available during the exam. If you expect to need food or drink while taking your exam, please contact your exam administrators for more information.
- Minimize noise - Frequent noises may cause your proctor to pause or end the exam. Please try to ensure that your exam environment stays as quiet as possible. Once the exam has started, you will not be permitted to speak aloud to anyone aside from the proctor.
- Secure testing device - To ensure exam security, background programs (remote access, viewer, support tools, or security/firewalls) must generally be disabled. We recommend testing from a personal device if possible. If you will be testing from a work provided device, please work with your IT department ahead of your exam appointment to verify these programs have been disabled as they may prevent you from completing your exam.
Which browser should I use to take my exam?
Prolydian supports all major, updated browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. The system does not support outdated browsers such as Internet Explorer.
If you are using Internet Explorer or an outdated browser, the system will alert you that some functionality may not be available to you. Please update the browser or install an updated browser before continuing.
Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.
What operating system should I use to take the exam?
Prolydian supports all operating systems, including MacOS. The only requirement is that an updated browser is installed on the operating system.
Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.
Can I use a tablet or similar device?
Yep! Tablets are supported; however, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer for the best user experience. Remote proctored exams have additional restrictions and requirements, so always make sure you complete the Computer Requirements check before you begin your exam.
Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.
What internet speed is required?
Prolydian’s exam delivery system is designed to require a minimal internet connection speed. Speeds greater than 5mbps are recommended, however slower speeds will still allow you to access and complete the exam. You will not lose exam time due to slower internet connections.
We recommend having a hard-wired connection instead of a wireless connection to prevent any disruptions, however stable wireless connections are acceptable.
How do I schedule my remote proctored exam?
You can schedule your exam directly from your Prolydian account. Log into the system and then go to the "My exams" page. Click the Schedule button and follow the steps. A step by step guide on scheduling can also be found here.
How do I select the correct time zone?
Prolydian relies on your device’s current settings to accurately detect your time zone and automatically adjust for daylight saving time, so your exam is scheduled at the right time. For more information, see Selecting your time zone and Time zone list
This is my first time taking a Prolydian exam, what can I expect?
First off, good luck with your exam! We know that exam day is stressful, so we strive to make your experience a good one. Prolydian's exam delivery engine was designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. The buttons will be very clear and navigation between questions will be easy.
What should I do if I get disconnected during my remote proctored exam?
If there's an interruption in your exam session, your proctor will attempt to call you to get the session resumed. They'll also send you an email with instructions on how to get the session started again. You can also contact the proctoring partners' support team for more help.
What should I do if I experience an error during testing?
Don't worry! Neither your exam nor your exam time will be impacted by any error you encounter. The system saves the exam time regularly throughout the exam, including after every question. Your current item and all prior responses are also saved, so the system will resume the exam at the point where the error occurred.
Please close your browser and then reopen it. Follow all previous steps you took to launch your exam (the steps will depend on whether it's remote proctored or self proctored).
The system will redirect you to the “Continue Exam” page. Click the Continue Exam button and you will be placed on the most recent item you viewed.
What if I have to cancel or reschedule?
Cancel or reschedule your exam via your Prolydian Examinee Dashboard. Also, be sure to review our Examinee Cancellation / Rescheduling policy.
